The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU) organized the 4th Evaluation Meeting for Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia (SEA-Teacher Project) on 9 October 2017 at the Empress Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The objectives of the meeting were to review and evaluate the implementation of the 4th batch of SEA-Teacher project to improve future programme as well as to discuss and plan for the 5th batch which will take place in January 2018.
There were a total of 195 participants comprising of presidents and the management-level officials from universities and teacher education institutes in Southeast Asian countries attended the meeting. These include 22 universities from Thailand, 29 universities from Indonesia, 15 universities from the Philippines, 1 university from Malaysia and 1 university from Vietnam. The signing ceremony for the 5th batch was held at the end of the meeting on 9 October 2017 with over 60 universities expressing their interests to participate in the next batch. The period of the next batch was agreed to be during 22 January – 18 February 2018.
The project which started since October 2015, aims to provide opportunities for pre-service student teachers whose major are mainly in English, math, science and pre-school to conduct their practicum in other Southeast Asian countries for one month. Chronologically, the 1st batch took place in January 2016, 2nd batch in July 2016, 3rd batch in January 2017 and the last one from 7 August to 5 September 2017. A total of 584 students from over 30 universities from Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand participated in the project. At the end of the one-month practicum, an evaluation meeting will be held to review and evaluate the implementation of each batch to discuss ways forward as well as to plan for the next batch.
